Since the day it opened in 1984, the Calthorpe Project has always relied on the huge input that volunteers can offer. Over the years it would be impossible to put a figure on how many valuable man hours have been donated by people willing to offer time and effort helping the staff maintain the project in general.
Along with offering volunteering opportunities, the Calthorpe has also offered in the past work placements to local school children and also to adults in further education whether it be Horticulture, Childcare, Office administration or working with older children and young adults. Work placements are a crucial part to gaining a lot of vocational qualifications and the Calthorpe are only too happy to oblige someone trying to further themselves in life.
The Calthorpe project has, built a reputation as a valued project for offering opportunities to volunteers and has also built close links with a number of organizations whose staff offer their time for free.
We value every volunteer we receive and include them in the day to day running and decision making of the project. All volunteers are reimbursed for any out of pocket travel expenses and also receive a written reference, if they request it, at any time during or after their time with us. Subsidised relevant short training courses are also offered from time to time.
