Children & Young People

Games at The Calthorpe

Funded by the Big Lottery Fund, the children's play programme provides activities and new experiences for children and their families in order that children and young people have access to ‘natural’ environments and a better understanding of them, take part in play activities that enhance their well-being and participate in a community-based project.

Our community garden allows children access to growing space where they can grow vegetables to encourage healthy eating.

All activities are provided at no cost and children are free to choose an activity to participate in either on their own or as part of a group.

Activities encourage children and young people to participate in physical activity encouraging imporved fitness and the opportunity to play with other children.

Play & Youth

First and foremost, The Calthorpe Project would like to thank the Big Lottery Fund for their contribution to our Play Schemes. And a big thank you to Camden's Schools and Families for applying for this funding.

The good weather is upon us and The Calthorpe is waking up after what seemed like a long and very cold winter.

This also means that we will have more children in the garden. Hooray!

Grow, Pick, Cook, Eat

This year we are going to be running a basic Horticulture Course for children and young people with their parents. They can learn how to grow food, harvest it and cook it.

Our objective is to teach Children and Young People to learn about the process of how it grows and where their food comes from. Children will often eat more healthily when they have grown the food themselves. From Seeds to Plate, so to speak.

There is no pressure to come to every class. They will run throughout the year, so that every one can learn about the seasonal jobs that need to be done in the garden. When crops are harvested, the children and young people will be invited to come and cook a meal with the produce and all sit down and eat together.

Our 25th

It's our 25th anniversary this year and we will be having a massive festival on 26th September. Many of the children's activities will be aimed towards this. They have already started to make some of the bunting that will adorn the garden and we are hoping to link up with local artists, who will help the children and young people to build some sculptures to put around the garden.

We look forward to seeing you all soon.
